What an audiovisual project covers

An A/V system is a chain, and it is only as good as its weakest link: sources and switching, transport (increasingly A/V over IP rather than point-to-point cabling), displays or projection, loudspeakers and amplification, microphones, digital signal processing, and the control layer that makes the room usable by someone who has never seen it before. JSC Systems designs, installs, commissions and maintains that whole chain, from a corporate boardroom to an arena.

Standards, credentials and compliance

Audiovisual work is judged on measurable outcomes — image size and viewing distance, sound pressure level and intelligibility, latency — not on equipment lists. AVIXA publishes the performance standards the industry designs to, and its certifications separate people who specify equipment from people who design systems.

Common questions

Projection or direct-view LED?

Ambient light usually decides it. Laser 4K projection is excellent value in a room you can control, and it scales to very large images cheaply. Direct-view LED holds up in bright, glazed or daylit spaces and has no lamp or bulb lifecycle, but costs more up front. We size the image from the furthest viewer and the smallest text they need to read, then choose the technology that survives the light in that room.

Why does the sound in our room feel unintelligible even though it is loud?

Intelligibility is not volume. Hard parallel surfaces, long reverberation times and loudspeakers covering the room from the wrong angle all destroy consonants while the meter still reads loud. The fix is usually coverage and processing rather than more power, and sometimes acoustic treatment that has nothing to do with the A/V budget. See professional sound systems.

What is A/V over IP, and does it help us?

It carries video and audio as network traffic instead of dedicated cabling, so a signal can reach any room with a network drop and the system grows by adding endpoints rather than rewiring a matrix. It helps most across multiple rooms or buildings. It also means the network design has to be right, which is why we prefer to handle the cabling and network infrastructure alongside it.

Will staff be able to use it without training?

That is the test we design to. One obvious way to start, one obvious way to stop, and controls that match how the room is actually booked and used. If a room needs a manual taped to the table, the control design has failed.

Do you maintain systems after installation?

Yes. Firmware, control code, licences and displays all age, and rooms drift as furniture and use change. A maintenance agreement keeps the room working and gives you one number to call when it does not. See A/V maintenance services.
